The Shannon Blueway is an innovative, safe and easy to use series of on water and land based trails. The first of its kind in Ireland the Shannon Blueway allows guided and unguided paddling and walking along the Lough Allen Canal and Shannon River from Carrick–on Shannon via Leitrim Village and Battlebridge to Drumshanbo.
The paddle allows visitors to experience the delights of the waterways and the rich and diverse culture and heritage of the Shannon in county Leitrim and can be broken into two short half day experiences or one full day experience. The Shannon Blueway is also a series of looped walks from Battlebridge to just outside Drumshanbo offering the visitor the option of two short 2 hour loops or one 4 hour loop.
The Shannon Blueway has been developed by Waterways Ireland in conjunction with Irish Sports Council (Trails Office), Canoeing Ireland and Leitrim Tourism.
